We are stoked to announce the addition of Hawaiian paddling phenomenon Morgan Hoesterey to our Surf Stronger team. Morgan is an accomplished endurance athlete and surfer with big plans this year. In April, Morgan and elite paddler Jenny Kalmbach will attempt to cross each of the Hawaiian channels on a standup paddleboard! We met with Morgan in December to do a fitness assessment and develop a dry land training plan to help her prepare for this bold endurance paddle. We liked her energy and enthusiasm from the emails we’d exchanged months prior to meeting, and in meeting in person, we were no less impressed. She seemed determined and super ambitious, but also really open to training advice we could impart. While we normally design surf specific workouts, designing a workout plan for paddling came naturally. With only about four months to prepare for the big adventure, we got right to work on figuring out a sport — and race — specific training program that would give her the biggest bang for her buck in terms of time and efficiency. Since that meeting in Santa Barbara, Coach Scott has been working with her on a weekly training regimen to help prepare her for the big adventure. Check out Morgan’s plans, training dispatches, and awesome photos on her website. Inspiring stuff to say the least!
Here’s wishing Morgan and Jenny all the best in their training and in the adventure!
