Once in a while you get the opportunity to walk in the presence of greatness. In my most recent case, surf in the presence of a legend. I was surfing just on the outskirts of Santa Cruz and none other than Tom Curren paddles out. Tom is in town for the California Cold Water Classic and was getting in a free surf with his son and a couple other groms. Pretty sick to see Curren stroke into a few grinding ones, stall in the barrel, and snap off the top in the inimitable style that we’ve all become familiar with. I guess if I was a football fan this would be like playing catch in my local park and Joe Montana shows up to play catch with his son. Needless to say, I was pretty stoked!
Tom plays some great music as well. If you haven’t checked his gig it’s worth a listen. Visit: http://www.myspace.com/surfingchyyeaaa
