I recently went on a coastal camping trip and discovered yet another reason to love the the TRX suspension trainer for surf training: Pre-surf stretching and campground strength training! On the first morning of my camp trip, I awoke to calm, overcast skies with a light off-shore wind blowing through the campground. Good conditions for a morning surf! I boiled water for some French press coffee, and walked the five minutes to the break. Sure enough I found glassy little peelers coming through the cove with only two guys out. The only problem was that I was feeling pretty stiff from a somewhat uncomfortable night’s sleep in the back of my truck. However, I’d quickly rectify that situation with some dynamic warmup moves from the Surf Stronger TRX workout. Dirt campgrounds aren’t so great for yoga mats or fit balls, but a TRX works killer. I rigged up the TRX in about twenty seconds, and then jammed out six different warmups. Loosened up, I grabbed my 9′6″ and jogged it down to the break. I guess luck was on my side this morning as ten minutes into the sesh a one wave set came out of nowhere, and I was in pole position to get it. I stroked hard for the horizon, spun around and dropped in on a head high peeler that I surfed a hundred yards or so. I surfed down the line, skimming over reef, rocks and seaweed as I trimmed it out on the 9′6″ — stoked to have been warmed up and ready for that first set of the day.
With just a TRX suspension trainer ($149.95) and the Surf Stronger TRX workout ($14.95) you can get a challenging, full-body, surf specific workout that will have you ready for any conditions! (The TRX trainer comes with helpful set up and workout DVD as well.)
Campground coffee always hits the spot.
